A booster (sometimes known as a power-up) is an item in Candy Crush Saga (or Candy Crush) that can be used to simplify the gameplay. There are various boosters in the game; some are stockable while others must be used immediately. Some boosters are activated via the screen before the level starts, others can be activated during the gameplay, while some are used as a consolation to recoup from a losing situation. Boosters, like continues, are used to prevent level failures, given failures will cost a life and impact adversely on event progress. Boosters are now an integral strategy in progressing in modern Candy Crush. Although Boosters are generally obtained by paying Gold, considerable amount of boosters and booster passes can be obtained renewably by completing events and watching ads which are held on a daily basis. Rare boosters can be obtained by finishing Daily Win and reaching milestone levels. Properties[]There are various boosters in the game and all of them have different properties. Boosters come with a certain number of charges. Once you use the booster, one use is consumed. Some boosters are activated before starting a level, while others are activated during level gameplay. More boosters can be applied on an ongoing level through playing on through ads or booster wheels, or as a last resort, continuing after meeting failure conditions. Jelly fish, coconut wheel, and lucky candy boosters may only be used in jelly, ingredient, and candy order levels respectively. Jelly fish and coconut wheel boosters may also be used in mixed levels. In-game boosters may only be used if the conditions can create any effect: for example, you can't use the Bomb Cooler when there's no bombs and you can't use the Bubblegum Troll when there's no chocolate fountains. Obtaining boosters[]Boosters can be unlocked when you reach a certain level which will get you three free boosters of the boosters that are said to be released in that episode. The game board refers to this as "unlocking boosters". More boosters can be obtained via Events, purchasing or continuing using Gold, or real-life money. Free boosters can be renewably obtained in various ways, most notably via completing events and watching advertisements. However, there may be limitations, such as that the obtained booster has to be used immediately upon obtaining, or that the feature is only available on the apps (not Windows 10 or Facebook). History of obtaining boosters[]At the game's inception, boosters are genuinely rare. There are no reliable ways of obtaining boosters beyond the first three of a kind besides paying Facebook Credits or Gold. This has held on for the first year and a half since the game's release besides the occasional Limited Time Help. Occasionally, you may be awarded boosters by completing usually 10 levels in some games by King.com, and it will also refill your lives. There was also one booster that is only available when a Facebook or King.com friend sends you one, namely the +3 moves booster, though this has been retired and replaced with more reliable equivalents. Since November 27, 2013, players can obtain free boosters every day from the daily booster wheel. Since April 22, 2015, some players can obtain free boosters by collecting Sugar Drops on specially marked levels. This is no longer possible unless you use an old mobile version. When the player completed the final level in the Dreamworld for the first time, the player receives an award equivalent to the Jackpot. Nowadays one can receive boosters on an almost daily basis via advertisements, the Daily Treat Machine, and multiple concurrent events and contests. Moreover, one can even obtain a timed version of the booster where the player will always start a level with one copy of this booster within a given timeframe. Even differing levels of Extra Moves can be obtained! Most events will provide boosters as rewards upon completing the objective.
Owing to the former rarity, almost all main walkthrough videos involve gameplay without boosters, and they will give special notice if they are using boosters. Boosters on Flash[]Besides the Gift from Friend, providing three Extra Moves at the start of the level, obtaining boosters is at most an infrequent occurrence, often limited to once a day. Many boosters, such as Extra Time, Sweet Teeth, Bubblegum Troll, do not have known ways of obtaining more besides paying Gold and obtaining the first three upon unlocking. There are also no booster passes on Flash. Boosters on HTML5[]By participating in certain events on HTML5, it is possible to get a considerable amount of boosters and even stack booster effects. Many event effects will apply booster benefits without consuming those from stock or Gold, on the player's current level. The timed boosters have unlimited uses before their timers run out, though they can only be used once per level. List of boosters[]Candy Crush Saga[]There are many types of boosters in the game. Some boosters are designed specifically for certain level types. Some levels have special restrictions on boosters. Note 1: Boosters shown in bold are available only in the Flash version, not on HTML5. They are all removed since the demise of Flash. Note 2: Boosters shown in strikeout are no longer available on any device.
Strategy[]In modern Candy Crush, boosters are integral in completing new levels. The platform you are playing, the events you are participating, and your current approach in playing the game all have an impact on the optimal method of obtaining boosters. In particular, boosters are stocked clientside on mobile apps (due to technical complexities), and stocked serverside on Facebook and Windows 10. Thus, boosters on mobile apps are "more perishable", and it is advised not to delete or reinstall the game, given that all boosters there will be lost upon the deletion of the game. Timed-limited boosters (booster passes) should be capitalized whenever possible, given that these boosters, combined with Candy Necklace, greatly help in completing new levels and maintaining the win streak. It is imperative to take periodic breaks when events and advertisements go inactive after completing the events and advertisements for that day. New levels are best completed when the events are active, and progress will count towards obtaining the rewards. Attitude on Boosters[]Managing to complete a level without any boosters is referred as completing a level NBU. Completing a level NBU used to be the unwritten standard for completing levels, but nowadays players are encouraged to obtain and use common boosters as liberally as possible (only when obtaining a golden crown, aka completing the current level on the first attempt). In the early days of CCS, boosters were obtained exclusively through real-life purchases or currency usually requiring real-life purchases; they are comparable to continuing. The only exceptions were the first three boosters received upon unlocking the booster. Thus, almost all walkthroughs before the implementation of Sugar Drops involve no boosters used, often termed as NBU with the exception of the most difficult nearly impossible and completely impossible levels. After when events become running daily and concurrently, boosters can be obtained in a variety of methods, but none of them are reliable for a non-coining player to obtain a large number of boosters consistently. This is because Candy Crush Saga does not have a non-premium currency that can be constantly obtained through regular gameplay, although very meager amounts of gold can be obtained. Even though Sugar Drops can be considered as a non-premium currency, there is a cooldown period and you cannot choose which boosters you will receive. The amount and type of boosters you will receive are low and random. Therefore, most Flash players refrain from using boosters owing to their rarity, except for 3 Extra Moves and Limited Time Help events. If they do, they usually use it only on the hardest levels and as a consolation from failure. They will also usually use boosters obtainable from more common methods, rather than those obtainable only through Gold. It is arguably easier to obtain boosters on Mobile than on Web through events, but unfortunately they are not synced as mobile boosters are stored clientside while web boosters are stored serverside. You will lose all your Mobile boosters when you uninstall and reinstall the game. Using boosters is much more common on HTML5 version (including walkthroughs), as there are other methods to obtain boosters through regular and frequent gameplay. With timed booster passes being introduced and Magic Dash/Booster Bot/Candy Necklace being introduced, players can start an indefinite amount of levels with these starting boosters and even stack these boosters as long as the pass is active. This also put Lives into irrelevance, and dramatically heightened the importance of obtaining a golden crown. Nevertheless, continuing and using rare boosters from stock such as the UFO and the Party Popper Booster still see only occasional use due to their rarity . The event effects also usually only affect the current level, and not replays, so NBU is still encouraged for replays. Poll[]On average, how helpful do you think boosters are? Trivia[]The Shuffle booster, once unavailable for unknown reasons. The alternate interface of using a starting booster on HTML5 (applies in events).
